Ground conditions

We know what's under New York City

Staten Island and the rest of the city are full of surprises below grade: rock, high groundwater, old foundations and buried debris. We plan for them, protect neighboring structures, and keep you informed when conditions change.

Every job starts with a New York 811 utility markout, and grades are checked as we go so the finished surface matches the plan. For holes that need to go deep in a tight space, we bring our long reach excavator.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you call 811 before digging?

Yes, on every job. New York 811 marks underground utilities before we break ground.

Can you work on a tight lot?

Yes. City lots with limited access are a normal day for us. We size equipment to the site and plan where spoils and trucks go before we start.

What if you hit rock?

We'll show you what we found and explain the options, such as breaking it out or adjusting the design with your engineer, before moving ahead.

Do you also do finish grading?

Yes. We grade to plan elevations and set proper slope away from buildings so water drains the right way.

Have a site that needs work?

Tell us what you're building. We'll walk the site, answer your questions and get you a clear estimate.
